Stations
In the days before mass public transportation, the train station was a region¡¯s gateway. They were also spaces where life¡¯s powerful moments coexisted: hellos and goodbyes, beginning and endings, meetings and separations, excitement and regret.
As time passed, some stations were closed, while others were completely transformed. In fact, their role as a gateway has been diminishing for quite some time.
Nevertheless, people continue to experience important moments in train stations, which are now regarded with romance and nostalgia. Disused stations are being repurposed as cultural complexes and other spaces as well, guaranteeing their relevance.
Accordingly, train stations are not simply places, but manifestations of history and culture. The January issue of KOREA will explore these nostalgic spaces and the memories they embody.
