Korea celebrates more than 1,000 festivals a year. Many events, originating from the country¡¯s agrarian
past, promote communal harmony, while others introduce tradition and history. Some festivals are based
on the arts, some promote local specialty products, and some are tied to tourism and leisure.
Although the value of festive leisure and play has long been forgotten, festivals have evolved into
collaborative and global events thanks to the growing interest among the general public.
