SINNOI¡¯s Performance in Canada

The Korean fusion traditional music group SINNOI was invited to perform in British Columbia from July 13 to the 16 by the Korean Cultural Center in Canada and the Overseas Cultural Promotion Agency in cooperation with the Harrison Festival Society, Langley Township and Vancouver Folk Music Festival. The group performed in several cities and festivals.

SINNOI is a group that is opening a new horizon in contemporary Korean music. The group combines the sounds of traditional Korean music with the double bass of geomungo (a traditional Korean plucked zither), jazz and electronic sounds to present new variations that go beyond the characteristics of each genre.

Korean Festival to Welcome Chuseok

Manila, Philippines

Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines and the Korea Tourism Organization located in Manila held ¡°The Korean Festival¡± to celebrate Chuseok on Sep. 10 and 11.

The venue was divided into traditional and modern Korean cultural experience spaces. Visitors to the traditional Korean cultural experience space were able to see hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) and a jumak (a traditional inn). The modern Korean cultural experience space included a reproduction of Nanji Hangang Park and showcased Korean school uniforms. Visitors could also enjoy Korean snacks like tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and ramyeon as well as K-pop busking.

Two Mexicans Conduct Poll on Learning Korean

Oct. 9 marks Hangeul Day in Korea. With the growing popularity of all things Korean abroad, demand for Korean-language education has consequently soared. Korean ranks 16th among the world¡¯s most-spoken languages with around 78 million people using it.

Honorary Reporter Karla Chavez Camargo and Veronica Zuniga Perez conducted a poll on Korean and summarized the experiences of 39 Korean-language students they surveyed in Mexico from Oct. 1 to 5 and their own. Vivid stories of students and interesting statistics results are posted on Korea.net.
