Once you reach the western end of Seokpajeong, you will encounter a large rock between dense trees. This broad, flat rock was a popular location for devout prayers, as it was known to contain the magical powers of Inwangsan Mountain. It is full of stories, such as those of old couples having children after devout prayers, and of sons passing exams after their mothers¡¯ earnest supplications. The overwhelming scenery created by nature must have planted these beliefs. This cliff is called ¡°Elephant Rock,¡± as the dark part supposedly resembles an elephant. Nowadays, visitors to Seokpajeong sometimes stand in front of the rock for a while, either to make a wish or to find the elephant.
