The name Culture N Ticket is a compound term formed from the word ¡°culture,¡± the letter N, and the
word ¡°ticket.¡± It emphasizes the need for ticketing services in order to enjoy culture and arts exhibits or performances. The letter N means both ¡°new,¡± as in, information related to culture and arts, and ¡°network,¡± as in, connecting all cultural events across the art scene. How do you gain admission to culture and arts? You buy tickets online or in-person at the box office. Regardless of your purchasing preferences, tickets must be bought and issued before you can attend. However, not all organizers are equipped with their own ticketing systems. Smaller organizations and facilities don't have the resources to promote their events, let alone install an expensive ticketing system. This is unfortunate for not only the organizers, but also for the consumers, who will be less-informed about cultural events that aren't promoted. How can art organizers enjoy the benefits without the burdens of increased costs? This question led to the launch of the Culture N Tickets website on Jan. 8.
Culture N Tickets, launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Culture Information Service Agency, constitutes a new platform that provides information and ticketing services for cultural events such as musicals, concerts and exhibitions. Under the new system, smaller organization facing challenges in online promotion can receive interest-free ticketing and promotional services.
The Culture N Tickets website has three objectives. First, tickets are sold with no markup. The ticketing system does not charge any extra for the tickets purchased or reservations made. Second, cultural events are promoted free-of-charge. Organizers can promote their events, facilities and cast through promotional channels at no cost. Lastly, consumers are given information about various events. In addition to quick-and-easy ticketing, the system offers greater exposure to shows and exhibitions by providing related information to consumers.
Self-service ticketing kiosks have been installed at participating sites for consumers to purchase and pick up their Culture N Tickets, providing them with greater accessibility to cultural events. Pilot kiosks were successfully tested at performing arts venues in Mapo-gu, Seoul, at the KT&G Sangsang Madang, the West Bridge, the Sanwoollim Theater and at the Yoon Hyoungbin Theater. The new ticketing platform is expected to allow more consumers to enjoy and appreciate the culture and arts.
