When people picture mountains in their minds, they often think of steep slopes and thickets full of ridges. Thus, the scenery of Hwangmaesan Mountain is quite different as a vast open field lies on the mountain peak. This field is the remains of an enormous ranch. In the past, cattle and lambs raised here ate up all the surrounding grass, leaving only the poisonous azaleas. This eventually led to a natural rhododendron colony developing. After the ranch closed, silver grass started growing on the empty meadow. This vast field, destroyed by mankind and restored by nature, is now a beautiful field with rhododendrons and silver grass, presenting visitors with an immense sense of endless freedom.
